Help Shape the Future of RDM Training: Apply Now for the ETH Domain MOOCathon!
What if your own research experience could help thousands of other researchers better understand and apply Research Data Management (RDM)? Take part in the upcoming ETH Domain MOOCathon: E-Learning for RDM, on September 10th and 11th at ETH Zurich.
This two-day, in-person event brings together researchers from across the ETH Domain to co-create and enhance short RDM training modules. Five modules – already drafted – will cover key RDM topics as part of a coordinated effort by the ETH Domain Open Research Data (ORD) Training Group (Measure 3). Final outputs will be published openly on the OpenLearnity platform and in the Zenodo Open Educational Resources (OER) Community (“ETH Domain Open Educational Resources for Research Data Management"), ensuring broad visibility and reuse.
What’s a MOOCathon?
A MOOCathon is a focused, collaborative sprint where small teams refine pre-drafted training modules and transform them into engaging, real-world learning experiences. With expert support and a clear structure, it’s a hands-on opportunity to co-author open content for the research community.
What You’ll Actually Do?
You’ll join a team of 5-6 researchers and work on one of the five drafted modules. Over two days, supported by pedagogical and technical experts, you will:
Why You Should Join?
Each participant can receive up to CHF 200, depending on their team’s wins.
While modest, these prizes are a gesture of appreciation for your creativity and contributions to the ETH Domain community.
Apply Now – Spots Are Limited!
This MOOCathon is open to researchers from Eawag, Empa, EPFL, ETH Zurich, PSI, and WSL, across all disciplines and career stages.

What You’ll Actually Do?
You’ll join a team of 5-6 researchers and work on one of the five drafted modules. Over two days, supported by pedagogical and technical experts, you will:
- Review the module draft and assess clarity, usability, and structure
- Suggest improvements for interdisciplinary audiences
- Add 2-3 concise, real-world case studies based on your field
- Design 1-2 interactive or multimedia elements (e.g., quizzes, visuals, scripts)

Why You Should Join?
- Make a real impact on open training used across Switzerland.
- All expenses covered, including travel and one night of accommodation in Zurich (for participants not based there), plus lunches and coffee breaks.
